2017 Summer Internships

The National Sports Center, SCHWAN'S USA CUP soccer tournament and the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission in Blaine, Minnesota announce the following internship openings.

Sports Administration & Event Management for NSC and MASC

  • Interns (6-8 positions available) will assist in the administrative organization of major amateur sporting events and projects sponsored by the NSC and MASC. These include Star of the North Games, SCHWAN’S USA CUP soccer tournament, NSC Cup, NSC All American Cup, USA Ultimate and NSC Velodrome events. Responsibilities will include registration, volunteer services, housing, transportation, officials, activities, campus operations, special events, marketing, competition/programming, ticketing and more. Excellent organizational skills and commitment to first-class service are a must.
  • Start: May 16, 2017

Campus Operations Logistics

  • Intern will work with NSC Campus Operations staff. Duties will include but not be limited to pre-tournament set up, execution of logistics requests, event management, post-tournament tear-down and day to day facility management tasks. The candidate must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, have a flexible schedule and be able to work in a fast-paced, hands-on working environment.

Media Relations Coordinator

  • Intern will write and assemble press kits, press releases, and research story ideas, write articles and handle media inquiries for events including Star of the North Games and Schwan's USA CUP.

Video Producer

  • Intern will assist in the production of “NSCtv”, a weekly video show. As well as a daily video show during SCHWAN’S USA CUP in the summer months. Candidate should be well versed in Adobe Premiere Pro (editing, color grading, sound syncing etc) as well as having a familiarity in camera functions (aperture, iso etc.)  The ideal intern will have a passion for telling stories with a flare, an ability to discover stories and enjoy writing articles and scripts. Additonal experience in Adobe Creative Suite/similar editing software a plus.

Still Photography and Photojournalism

  • Duties will include shooting digital photos on assignment for the NSC Marketing Team, including NSC events, sponsor documentation and social media for the website, Schwan’s USA CUP daily newspaper, and printed publications. Intern will work in a team environment, often working with a reporter, and will be expected to play an active role in creative and journalistic decisions. Candidate must provide their own camera equipment, have excellent skills in Photoshop or equivalent photo-editing software.

Schwan's USA CUP Dorm Advisor

  • During SCHWAN’S USA CUP; dorms provide a campus living experience for some of the International and United States athletes. We are seeking responsible candidates who will bring diverse backgrounds, are multi-lingual and have outgoing personalities for these positions. As an advisor, you will serve as the immediate contact for individuals in your assigned dorm, answering questions, coordinating transportation, and enforcing policies. You must also stay in the dorm you are assigned during the tournament.
  • Start: July 2017


  • During summer, hours are 40+ per week. Interns should be flexible with time, as many positions require event work in evenings and weekends. Interns MUST be available to work July 12-22, 2017. The last day of the internship will be Friday, July 28, 2017. All positions are available for course credit as approved by your institution.


  • All positions are a paid bi-weekly stipend based on commensurate of experience.


  • Resumes and cover letters submitted prior to February 13, 2017 will be given preference. Applicants will need to complete an in-person interview which will be conducted at the National Sports Center during the week of February 27-March 10, 2017. Alternate interview days may be accommodated.

Freelance Photographer - VOLUNTEER

The National Sports Center (NSC), a non-profit organization (, is seeking a volunteer photographer to assist with youth amateur sporting events throughout the year.  The volunteer photographer should enjoy working in the sports and/or photography industry and should bring creative talent combined with technical skills to produce professional photographs for the NSC.

In turn, the photographer will have the opportunity to build their portfolio. Duties will include shooting digital photos on assignment for the NSC Marketing Team, including NSC events, sponsor documentation, and social media.

This is a volunteer position.

Basic Requirements

  • Must have an interest in covering all campus sports
  • Must own professional equipment (DSLR camera)
  • Attend annual sporting events on our campus to be the NSC official photographer.
  • Work alongside the PR, media and marketing team.
  • Understand lighting, possess the ability to photograph people, landscapes, merchandise, or other subjects using digital camera equipment.
  • Would particularly suit someone interested in pursuing a career in sport and/or general photography and looking to develop a portfolio

This position requires:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience shooting and editing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including special events held on evenings, weekends and holiday periods
  • Self-starter with good problem-solving skills

Hospitality Concessions & Catering Associate

Position Information

  • Rate of Pay: Based on Experience
  • Hours Per Week: Varies based on campus events
  • Location: All Campus Concession/Catering
  • Kitchen and concession experience preferred but not required


Schedule will vary based on events.

Position Description

The National Sports Center is looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual with an outgoing personality, hard work ethic, a clean/neat and professional appearance, and can provide excellent customer service. This individual will be a representation of the National Sports Center

Position Responsibilities

  • Greeting customers
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Taking, assembling, and presenting food orders
  • Operating a cash register and requesting/receiving payment from customers
  • Cooking and preparing food – standing and constant moving
  • Assist in various food areas to ensure food and concessions are being prepared and packaged properly, and being delivered to the customer in a timely manner
  • Stocking concessions trailers and/or food or vendor stands
  • Assist in inventory counts to help with proper stock and rotation
  • Cleaning in accordance with the National Sports Center sanitary standards including but not limited to:
    • Sweeping and mopping floors
    • Cleaning walls, counters, kitchen and service equipment
    • Removing trash
  • Associate will be trained in multiple areas within the concessions and catering position

Position Qualifications

  • Physical Requirements: This positions requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate commercial grade kitchen equipment such as popcorn popper, hotdog machine, kitchen ovens, etc.
  • Experience preferred but not necessary

The Schwan Super Rink is currently looking to hire Zamboni drivers to resurface ice.
