BLAINE, Minn. (March 24, 2008) – The National Sports Center (NSC) will host a varied menu of major events during the month of April, showcasing the flexible venues available at the Blaine facility.
Here is a summary of the major events:
Free electronics recycling drop-off, April 11-12, Lot D.
For those holding onto electronic items that are no longer being used, now is your chance to get rid of them – the proper way. A free electronics recycling drop-off will soon be available at the NSC, courtesy of Waste Management and Sony.
Electronic devices made by any manufacturer will be accepted. This includes televisions, computers, mice, speakers, printers, fax machines, photocopiers, VCRs, DVD players and recorders, cell phones and PDAs.
Items such as microwave ovens or other large appliances will not be accepted.
Drop-off times are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lot D, which is on the north side of 105th Avenue Northeast.
Stick It to Cancer Hockey Tournament, April 18-20, Schwan Super Rink.
A total of 96 girls’ and women’s hockey teams from around the Midwest will help combat breast cancer when they participate in the 10th annual Stick It to Cancer Hockey Tournament.
The University of Minnesota Cancer Center is the designated recipient of the proceeds and donations from participating teams. Last year, the Cancer Center received $45,000, and it is anticipated that the 2008 tournament will draw a greater amount.
An all-you-can-eat waffle breakfast, sponsored by the Park and Sell Auto-Mart in Ham Lake, and a silent auction will also be held to assist in raising much-needed funds.
A total of six rinks will be used to account for the 22-team increase from last year. Previously, four rinks were utilized.
Event hours are Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The tournament is open to the public. Daily admission is $8 for adults and $6 for students or an all-tournament pass can be purchased for $20 and $15, respectively.
