Here is the National Sports Center’s construction update for October 19, 2017.
105th Ave NE reconstruction:
Last week the contractor paved the first layer of asphalt on the south side of 105th, including the 105th/Davenport intersection. Traffic flow through that intersection has improved greatly, and backups on Davenport have been significantly reduced.
This week the contractor is preparing the subgrade for the trail and sidewalk on the south side. They are also scheduled to pave the bituminous trail and concrete sidewalk on the south side of the roadway.
Next week the contractor will be completing the restoration of the boulevards along the south side of the roadway. They are also scheduled to begin preparing the south side for traffic to be switched from the north side to the south side, so they can start work on the north side.
Remember that the speed limit on 105th NE is 30 m.p.h.
Open access roads:
There are four open access points to NSC facilities south of 105th Ave NE, including the Sports Hall, Schwan Super Rink, Welcome Center and the Victory Links Golf Course.
Access to the fields north of 105th Ave NE is unchanged and fully open.
Customers using the Sports Hall, including Kick-or-Treat teams and fans, should park in Lot A, to the west of the Sports Hall. This is the new parking lot built on the site of the old U3 field. This parking lot is built of permeable pavers, for environmentally responsible control of storm water run-off.
A Kick-or-Treat registration desk is located in the Residence Hall lobby. Follow the directional signs.
Once you are inside the Sports Hall, we hope you enjoy playing on our brand-new FieldTurf turf.
Parking Lot B, which used to be the primary Sports Hall parking lot, is temporarily closed to public use because of construction on the C fields. Lot B will be redesigned and reopened once construction is completed.
Stadium turf construction:
The NSC Stadium is being regraded in preparation for the installation of a base layer prior to the installation of two artificial turf fields. This project will go fast. The entire project should be completed before the snow flies.
Insider tip: If you have small children who enjoy watching heavy machinery work, we invite you to come and watch the earth moving work currently going on inside the stadium. It’s free, but keep your viewing to the grandstand only. No viewing from the field level.
Sports Hall parking, including Kick-of-Treat parking, is now in the new Lot A, to the west of the Sports Hall. This lot is built with permeable pavers for environmentally reponsible control of storm water run-off.
