The Burnley F.C., nicknamed The Clarets, is the first English professional team to visit Minnesota since 1978. The 126 year-old club is one of the founding members of the The Football League and currently plays in the Coca-Cola Championship. During the 2007-2008 season, Burnley achieved 62 points; the largest amount of points they have earned since 2001. The Thunder (4-4-4 in USL-1 play) scored 26 points in last year’s regular season.

"I am thrilled for our team that we have the opportunity to play such a well-known, well-supported team like Burnley F.C.,” said Thunder head coach Amos Magee. “They bring a very competitive team with a rich tradition of excellence. It will be a huge challenge for us, but we will be prepared to prove to Minnesota and English fans alike that we can play with some of the best that the English Championship has to offer.”
