Sports Administration & Event Management Internship

The National Sports Center (NSC) and Target USA CUP soccer tournament in Blaine, Minnesota is hiring multiple (5-6) interns for the summer of 2020.

Interns will assist in the administrative organization of major amateur sporting events and projects sponsored by the NSC.  These include Target USA CUP soccer tournament, NSC CUP, NSC All American Cup and other external bid events.  Responsibilities will include registration, volunteer services, housing, transportation, officials, activities, campus operations, special events, marketing, competition/programming, ticketing, sponsorship and more. Excellent organizational skills and commitment to first-class service are a must. 

Start date is Tuesday, May 12, 2020. Hours are 40+ per week.  Interns should be flexible with time, as many positions require event work in evenings and weekends. Interns MUST be available to work May 23-24, June 5-7, and July 8-20, 2020. The last day of the internship will be Friday, July 31, 2020.  All positions are available for course credit as approved by your institution. All positions are a paid bi-weekly stipend based on commensurate of experience.

Only those who submit a cover letter and resume will be considered for the position. Deadline for application submission will be Monday, February 10, 2020.  Candidates will be asked to attend an in person interview between February 17-28, 2020 at the National Sports Center.  If alternative interview dates or methods are needed, those can be requested through the Internship Coordinator. 

Interns from outside of Minnesota have the opportunity to stay in our on-campus dormitory housing during their summer internship for a nominal fee.

Content Creation/Marketing Internships

The National Sports Center (NSC) is hiring multiple content creation interns for the summer of 2020.

Each intern will have a primary area of expertise including video production, graphic design and social media, however, all interns will be exposed to various areas of content creation. These people will focus on producing editorial content, growing brand identity and promoting NSC partners, sponsors, tournaments and additional events. The ideal candidates are passionate about storytelling and sports development and are eager to learn about various methods of content production and digital marketing.

All internships are paid positions and can be up to 40+ hours during the week and include some weekends. The internship will be from Tuesday, May 12 - Friday, July 31, 2020.

Campus Operations and Logistics Internship

The National Sports Center (NSC) and Target USA CUP soccer tournament in Blaine, Minnesota is hiring an intern for the summer of 2020.

Intern will work with NSC Campus Operations staff. Duties will include but not be limited to pre-tournament set-up, execution of logistics requests, event management, post tournament tear-down and day to day facility management tasks. The candidate must be able to lift at least 40 pounds, have a flexible schedule and be able to work in a fast paced, hands-on working environment.

Victory Links Golf Course positions

Join a great team this summer at Victory Links Golf Course - the only PGA-Tour designed course open to the public in Minnesota. Positions include:

  • Golf Course Operations (outside service, pro shop, course ambassador, starter, golf instructor) - $11+/hour
  • Next Level Golf Camp Counselor (working with children in our summer camp program) - $15+/hour
  • Beverage Service (concessions, food sales, beverage cart operation) - $11+/hour
  • Grill Cook (grilling, cooking and food prep) - $15+/hour

Sports Facility Supervisor

The NSC is looking for individuals to fill the position of Sports Facility Supervisor.  We are seeking customer service minded individuals.  Must be self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to problem solve.  This position is part time with evening and weekend hours (October 2019-April 2020). 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as liaison between coaches, players, parents, referees, and NSC staff.
  • Greet customers and be available to answer their questions.  Communicate any unresolved questions and concerns to NSC staff.
  • Set up facility to prepare for league and rental usage.
  • Complete league tasks such as collecting scores and verifying that referees are on site.
  • Monitor the facility and troubleshoot for problems. 
  • Calmly respond to incidents and be prepared to mediate disputes between referees, coaches, and players.

Adult Flag Football Official

The NSC is looking for quality officials for our Adult Flag Football League.  The league plays a 6v6 format with two officials.  Officials do not need to be certified but some experience in football officiating is required.  All games are played on the National Sports Center campus.

Ice Resurfacer Operator (Zamboni Driver)

The NSC Super Rink is looking for part-time Ice Resufacer Operators to give a great experience to all of our customers. Operators will take guidance from our managers and supervisors to maintain the building, resurface the ice on time according to schedule, assist with maintaining the equipment and maintain the cleanliness of the building.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Must be responsible, and able to work with the public efficiently and courteously
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent

Equipment Operator - Field and Turf maintenance

The National Sports Center is seeking applicants for the 2019 summer outdoor season to assist in the maintenance and setup of our outdoor sports fields and golf course. This includes over 50 full-sized outdoor soccer fields, an 18-hole golf course and more.

Equipment Operator - Field and turf maintenance

Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent and Head Grounds Keeper
Classification: Full time, seasonal, non-exempt
Hours: 40 hours/week with some weekends and overtime
Salary: $12/hr - $13/hr

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mowing and maintaining high-quality turf, including seeding, sodding and trimming
  • Daily setup and maintenance of the golf course and sports fields, including raking bunkers, and marking and painting sports fields
  • Mulching, weeding and pruning landscape beds, shrubs, and trees
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment and maintenance facility
  • Additional facility event setup duties, as assigned

Knowledge, abilities, and skills needed for this position:

  • Knowledge of golf course and sports field maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper use of safety practices
  • Ability to operate various pieces of maintenance equipment
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions to complete work assignments correctly and efficiently
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including standing, sitting, kneeling, and bending for an extended period of time, under various conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, and snow
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and employees within all departments
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings as required

Experience and training:

  • Previous experience in golf course or field maintenance a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge and safe operation of field maintenance equipment, including industrial mowers and hand trimmers or ability to learn

Hospitality Concessions & Catering Associate

Position Information

  • Entry Level: $11/hr - $12/hr
  • Hours Per Week: Varies based on-campus events
  • Location: All Campus Concession/Catering
  • Customer Service, Kitchen and concession experience preferred but not required

The schedule will vary based on events, including evenings and weekends.

Position Description

The National Sports Center is looking for an energetic, self-motivated individual with an outgoing personality, hard work ethic, a clean/neat and professional appearance, and can provide excellent customer service. This individual will be a representation of the National Sports Center

Position Responsibilities

  • Greeting customers
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Taking, assembling, and presenting food orders
  • Operating a cash register and requesting/receiving payment from customers
  • Cooking and preparing food – standing and constant moving
  • Assist in various food areas to ensure food and concessions are being prepared and packaged properly, and being delivered to the customer in a timely manner
  • Stocking concessions trailers and/or food or vendor stands
  • Assist in inventory counts to help with proper stock and rotation
  • Cleaning in accordance with the National Sports Center sanitary standards Associate will be trained in multiple areas within the concessions and catering position

Position Qualifications

  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift/pull/push/move/carry up to 25 pounds and the ability to stand for long periods of time in a fast-paced environment
  • With training, ability to operate kitchen and concessions equipment such as popcorn popper, hotdog machine, kitchen ovens, etc.
  • Experience preferred but not necessary
