Blaine, Minn. (June 12, 2018) - The National Sports Center (NSC) in Blaine, Minnesota will be hosting the High School Summer Basketball Scrimmage Series beginning June 14 on its new hardwood courts in the Sport Expo Center.

The months of June 1 – July 30 mark the open period when the Minnesota State High School League allows coaches to work with their teams in the offseason. The NSC will provide a platform for high school teams to play against each other in a scrimmage-like setting.

“We are extremely excited to engage local high school coaches this offseason to bring their programs to the National Sports Center to play in our High School Summer Series,” George Ellis, the NSC’s staff member charged with developing court sports programming. “We want to provide high-quality, professionally managed basketball events that help set the standard throughout the state of Minnesota.”

Ten teams from around the North Metro area have signed up and will scrimmage each other Thursday evenings through June 28.

“We see an enormous demand for upgraded basketball facilities in the North Metro,” Ellis said. “We are glad to be a solution to the needs of basketball programs in our area.”

Spectator admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.  Concessions will be offered as well.

The portable courts opened May 24 and can accommodate basketball (2 courts) or volleyball (3 courts.) The courts will be arranged in a center-court configuration with spectator seating for the scrimmage series.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting is planned for June 15 at noon, courtesy of the Metro North Chamber of Commerce.
